« on: December 07, 2015, 12:46:11 PM »
UPDATE #2: The full game is now available directly from us! Thanks to everyone who helped with the technical demo - your feedback was invaluable.

Please visit the main Fear Equation website for purchasing information.

UPDATE #1: We've uploaded a new build, 200, for the Windows tech demo (with Mac and Linux on their way).

Mac and Linux are up now too.

Hey folks, we're happy to announce the immediate availability of the Fear Equation technical demo.

The focus of this release is to get the game running on as many different hardware configurations as possible. We'd also appreciate a run-down of your computer's specifications, either through DXDiag or the Apple System Profiler / About this Mac. Alternatively, if you're familiar with your hardware, you can just list the following:

CPU, video card, amount of RAM, operating system and version (including service packs) and display resolution.

Here are the links for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux:

The technical demo has several limitations compared to the final game:
  • The game will end after 14 in-game days.
  • Four types of fears out of a much larger pool.
  • Saving and loading is disabled.
  • Limited number of carriage dispute types.
  • Limited custom engineer creation, with most modifiers locked.
  • All standard engineer templates locked, with the exception of the Provisional Technician (tutorial).
Finally, we urge you to post any technical feedback or problems you have in the dedicated forum. If you'd like to contact us directly, email logan@screwflystudios.com for technical queries, and contact@screwflystudios.com with general questions.

Whether you run into problems, or the game runs fine -- let us know either way!

CHANGES: BUILD 200
  • The Hail Mary option now has an accompanying cinematic.
  • Linux: Fixed an issue that prevent the game from starting.
  • It is now possible to "zoom" in on the mission computer and carriage control station by press W / Up while facing them.
  • A warning is now presented if you attempt to start a scavenging mission without assigning orders to all passengers on the mission.
  • Related to the above -- if the warning is ignored and the mission started anyway, passengers without orders will be given a basic (and almost certainly sub-optimal) order.
  • Balance tweaks to the rate at which fog density increases.
  • Modifiers provided by VIP passengers are now clearly marked in the modifier card bundle on the shelf near the sink.
  • Increased the speed of time acceleration during the work phase by roughly 3x.
  • Addresses some issues with cancelling fear attack cinematics.
  • After a Hail Mary run, if fuel was found and the train's tank is empty, the train will engage the throttle to idle power automatically.
  • Environment effects added when a passenger disappears from a carriage due to a lack of power.
  • The lottery card is now populated automatically with the previous day's winners (if they're still alive).
  • Reduced build size by ~10%.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks.

KNOWN ISSUES: BUILD 200
  • Timing bugs with missions and orders in new games started after abandoning or losing a previous one. As a workaround, please exit the game entirely and restart it
  • Graphics issues on systems without discrete graphics (no NVIDIA or AMD GPU).
  • Notebook users with combined Intel and NVIDIA/AMD graphics chips should make sure the game is running on the latter high performance hardware. Note this is a common problem with Unity-based titles.
